Defining soft tissue injuries

Injuries to muscles, tendons or ligaments are generally referred to as soft tissue injuries. They tend to result from car accidents as people inside of a vehicle may be violently jolted upon impact. This may result in Florida residents and others suffering from strains, sprains or complete muscle or ligament tears. In some cases, a person may experience general soreness for a period of time after a crash.

Soft tissue injuries are diagnosed differently than those that are present on hard surfaces, such as bone. In some cases, symptoms of a soft tissue strain or tear may not show up until hours or days after the accident takes place. People who experience neck stiffness or soreness may be suffering from whiplash. Whiplash occurs when the head is moved quickly and suddenly, which puts stress on the neck and spine. In addition to neck pain and soreness, the condition may lead to serious issues, such as herniated disks and joint issues.

Generally, whiplash occurs during accidents in which a person is hit from behind. Memory loss, depression and fatigue may also be symptoms of whiplash, and individuals are urged to seek treatment for any pain that they feel after an accident. Doing so may make it possible for people to control their pain as well as help their injuries heal in a timely manner.

If an auto accident is caused by a negligent driver, it may be possible for a victim to collect compensation for pain and suffering, medical bills and lost wages. In the event that whiplash or other injuries make it impossible for a person to return to work, lost future earnings may also be covered. Damages may be awarded as part of a settlement or determined after a jury trial. An attorney may represent an injured victim both inside and outside of court.
