Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute has affiliation agreements to improve the delivery of quality healthcare to cancer patients in Lake, Sumter, Marion Counties and the entire Central Florida Region. The Moffitt Cancer Center at the Villages Regional Hospital and the Cancer Care Center at Leesburg Regional Medical Center work with Moffitt affiliated doctors and oncologists to improve mesothelioma and cancer treatment outcomes for their patients through the increased availability of advanced treatment options. This brings the interdisciplinary team approach at Moffitt in Tampa, and the highest level of cancer care, to the community level without patients having to travel miles away from their homes. Mofitt’s internationally renowned physicians are available to collaborate to carry out the treatment plans and monitoring required for the best possible care.
The Villages Regional Hospital is a 50,000 square foot outpatient facility located in The Villages with board certified oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists and hematologists. Patients needing radiation, chemotherapy, blood draws, imaging and other services may treat locally with a prescription from a Moffitt physician. The local Moffit-affiliated physicans and surgeons collaborate to provide the highest quality advanced treatment options and care for mesothelioma and lung cancer patients.
Leesburg Regional Medical Cneter has a dedicated inpatient cancer care program with private rooms, as well as an outpatient infusion center for chemotherapy, IV therapies and other diagnostic procedures. Leesburg Regional Medical Center, through its Cancer Registry, collects data and monitors patient outcomes to tract important trends about survival rates and types of treatments in our community. The Cancer Program at LRMC was awarded the Jean Byers Oncology Award in 2011.
